Not that I’m surprised by Owen’s decision and maybe I should have seen this a long time ago, but he has now confirmed that he won’t be able to make it out to meet me as planned in Ghana and so my project Afritrex has now taken on a very different shape.
Half the people, twice the chance of completing the challenges though and boy has it given me a huge amount of motivation to finish the task I set myself nearly 5 years ago!
Although I’ve been struck down by the dreaded malaria the recovery has been swift and I’m feeling almost 100% again so training for the ‘Big One’, the Comrades Race must now be my main focus.
For the last few days I’ve been toying with the idea of putting the Colonel into a container and shipping it to South Africa as the drive alone would be suicidal, but two days ago another overlander, Case from Holland, arrived in the camp and we’ve decided that together we can make the journey and will arrive in SA by road as was always the idea.
So tomorrow we hit the embassies hard and attempt to get all of the visas we’ll require for the trip south, this will mean another few days sitting tight as we wait for the typically slow African administration to process our applications, but better to do this than arrive at any of the borders without the required documentation.
